My Mathematical Teaching Philosophy

My mathematical teaching philosophy has a few key components to it, that I am going to share with you here. The first major part of being a good teacher of any subject is understanding the importance of reflection, and how you can add it into your educator journey. Being a reflective teacher, is being a good teacher. Every year, you will get new students counting on you to teach you all you need to know for that grade level, whether they realize how important it is or not. Being able to go back and reflect on the year prior and what did and did not work, is what is going to make the next year even better and more efficient when teaching your new students, (UNL, 2026). My students deserve the best, reflected version of my teaching skills. My philosophy keeps me reminded that I want to be like the good math teachers I had, and nothing like some of teachers who did not work to help me be the best math learner that I could be. When I think about teaching math to my future students, I first think about how I will promote their healthy mindset towards math. If a student has a heathy mindset towards math, it can change the entire trajectory of how their mathematic education careers will play out. I wish that I got started with a healthy math mindset, I do believe it would have changed things for me, so I hope I can do this for my future students. To teach mathematics, I will use healthy mindset teaching, practice assignments and assessments (to see what works with certain student groups), and reflective teaching practices to keep learning how to be a better teacher myself for the. I will be a great math teacher for the future students who deserve a great math teacher. I am eager for my teacher journey!
